 The town of Chiaro seems to just be a normal little town surrounded by a forest. Not many people leave, but isn't that a common occurrence in some small towns? The CU building holds much more of a fasionation being that none of the citizens know what happens in there. What they don't know is that CU have brought humans back to life as blank slates called Actives, who they can program to do whatever they want for them...or so they think. The Actives hide certain things themselves. Then there is the Forest, the place that seems to have something strange and magical about it that no one can ever quite pin down. And why exactly does no one ever leave Chiaro?
